If you’ve been reading our recent posts, you know that dealing with an angry IT employee can be challenging and can potentially harm your company’s reputation and operations.

It can stop your business in its tracks. But what measures can you take to make sure it doesn’t happen to you? Here are five steps you can take to protect your company:

1. Have a clear code of conduct: Establish a clear code of conduct that outlines expectations for employee behavior, including how to handle disputes and conflicts. Ensure that all employees are aware of this code and understand the consequences of violating it.

2. Address issues early: Address any issues or concerns with the employee as soon as possible, before they escalate into a bigger problem. Schedule a private meeting with the employee to discuss their behavior and listen to their concerns. Provide feedback and support to help the employee improve their behavior.

3. Limit access: Limit access to sensitive data and systems that the employee has access to. This can help prevent the employee from causing damage to the company’s assets or systems if they become angry or upset.

4. Monitor activity: Monitor the employee’s activity closely, particularly if they are showing signs of anger or frustration. Keep an eye on their emails, messages, and social media accounts to ensure they are not engaging in behavior that could harm the company.

5. Have a plan: Develop a plan for dealing with an angry employee before it becomes a problem. This plan should include steps for reporting the employee’s behavior, contacting HR, and potentially terminating their employment if necessary. Ensure that all managers and employees are aware of this plan and know how to follow it in case of an emergency.

Of course, these steps aren’t going to prevent every possible instance of this happening. But it will at least get you on the right track to defending your business from a vengeful employee.
