Not interested in Microsoft, Google or somebody else's cloud? You have options.

Private & Independent IT puts ownership, privacy and control at the center of your technology decisions. We design and manage the systems that fit your business—not a vendor's default stack.

Private IT is an approach to architecture, not a promise that every system must be offline. It can combine on-premises servers, self-hosted business software, private AI and carefully chosen hosted services. Your requirements determine where data lives, who administers it and what you own.

Private does not mean maintenance-free.

Local systems shift responsibility, not eliminate it. Hardware, power, physical access, software updates and tested backups still matter. Offline operation needs a plan for update transfer, recovery and the work that normally depends on the internet. We discuss those tradeoffs before recommending a design.

A different architecture. The same accountable team.

For businesses in Syracuse and Central New York, technology independence can mean reducing reliance on a single platform, keeping sensitive workloads on client-owned infrastructure, or building a bespoke IT environment around specialized operations. We start with the business requirement, then choose the tools.

Ownership and data sovereignty

Define where information is stored, who can access it and how it can be exported. Document infrastructure ownership and administrative responsibility rather than treating a private server as a substitute for governance.

Vendor-agnostic design

Compare commercial, open-source and custom options on compatibility, supportability and lifetime cost. Microsoft 365 or public cloud can still be the right choice for some workloads; independence does not require rejecting every hosted service.

Private where it matters

Choose on-premises, hybrid or private cloud deployment for the applications that justify it. Air-gapped networks and off-grid-capable systems are specially designed options for select applications, not standard features of every installation.

Managed beyond installation

Plan patching, access management, backups, recovery and secure communications alongside the build. Client-owned infrastructure needs an operating plan and a team responsible for keeping it useful.

Start with one requirement—not a full MSP switch.

You can keep your current IT provider. We can scope a private infrastructure, software or AI project around the environment you already have, working with your internal team or existing provider and agreeing responsibilities before implementation.

Map the dependencies

Review applications, identities, devices, data flows and recovery needs. Identify which systems genuinely need independence and which integrations must remain connected.

Design and test the approach

Compare deployment options, licensing and maintenance demands. Pilot the workflows and migration path before replacing tools the business depends on.

Build a sustainable handover

Agree on documentation, administrator access, user training and ongoing support. Plan how updates and recovery will work even for disconnected systems.

Common questions

Do we have to leave our current IT provider?

No. Private IT can be a separately scoped project alongside your current provider or internal IT team. We agree the boundaries of the project and who will support each part.

Is traditional Managed IT still a good option?

Absolutely. Fully managed Microsoft 365, cloud and everyday IT can be an excellent fit. Private & Independent IT is another legitimate approach when ownership, deployment or vendor requirements call for it. Hybrid designs can combine both.

Can you build an air-gapped or off-grid-capable system?

We can design for select disconnected and off-grid-resilient requirements. Feasibility depends on applications, hardware, power, dependencies and maintenance. These are specific architecture choices, not blanket claims about our managed IT service.

Does private IT include private AI?

A private AI deployment can be scoped as part of the design. These implementation projects are quoted separately. Managed AI policy, approved-tool guidance, licensing, training and consultation remain standard with Managed IT and also available standalone.
